This thesis presents the program, design process, and final proposal for a church on the Faroe Islands, specifically in Argir. It explores the relationship between architecture and religion and how these functions within Faroese culture. Religion is a key aspect of Faroese life, uniting the community, and has significantly influenced the design elements.

The isolated location of the islands limits material selection, leading to a unique vernacular architecture that inspired the design. The project includes a church, community house, and chapel, developed through studies, investigations, and on-site observations. The iterative process resulted in various proposals informed by empirical knowledge.

The design focuses on lighting conditions, acoustics, structural system, and the impact of the surrounding nature. The architecture aims to reflect and enhance the cultural and communal significance of religion in the Faroe Islands.

Denne afhandling præsenterer programmet, designprocessen og det endelige designforslag til en kirke på Færøerne, specifikt i Argir. Afhandlingen undersøger sammenhængen mellem arkitektur og religion samt hvordan dette fungerer inden for den færøske kultur. Religion er en central del af det færøske samfundsliv, der forener lokalsamfundet og har haft stor indflydelse på designelementerne.

Øernes isolerede beliggenhed begrænser valget af materialer, hvilket har ført til en unik vernakulær arkitektur, der har inspireret designet. Projektet omfatter en kirke, et fælleshus og en kapel, udviklet gennem studier, undersøgelser og registreringer på stedet. Den iterative proces har resulteret i forskellige forslag baseret på empirisk viden.

Designet fokuserer på lysforhold, akustik, konstruktionssystem og påvirkningen fra den omgivende natur. Arkitekturen sigter mod at afspejle og styrke den kulturelle og fællesskabsmæssige betydning af religion på Færøerne.
